Amer Burhan

  • Title Of Presentation : Neuropsychiatry of Alzheimer disease: Where are we now and where are we going?

Dr. Burhan is associate professor, Vice Chair of the Department of Psychiatry and chair of geriatric psychiatry at the Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry/Western University in London Ontario Canada. He is the physician clinical lead for therapeutic brain stimulation program at Parkwood Institute-Mental Health Building. 

After graduating from the Medical College of Baghdad University he did a fellowship in basic neurosciences at the Montreal Neurological institute, residency in Psychiatry at the University of Rochester, and advanced training in geriatric neuropsychiatry at Western University. 

He carries FRCPC certification in psychiatry and geriatric psychiatry and a Masters of Science in community health from the Dalla Lana School of Public Health and U of Toronto. He is a clinician educator and investigator and his career focus is complex mental health presentation in old age especially neuropsychiatric symptoms across the neurocognitive and neurodegenerative disorders spectrum. 

He has practiced, taught, researched and published in this area and in the area of brain stimulation and participated in practice guideline and care pathway development.

He is site principle investigator on two large multi-site studies on agitation related to Alzheimer Disease in ambulatory and Hospital and Long Term Care settings
